Mikes Beach Resort

F.A.Q

What is the best way to get to you?

You can get to Mikes in a variety of ways. From Seattle you can either take the Seattle ferry to Bainbridge or Bremerton then drive the rest of the way. Seattle-Bremerton is one of the most picturesque drives coming through beautiful Union. You can also drive down the I5 South then switch to the 101 North in Olympia and head straight to us.

Do you have a restaurant onsite?

We do not have a restaurant onsite, there are restaurants within 15 mins drive North or South.

Can I hold an event at your resort?

Weddings, events and retreat packages available.

We kindly ask that all events at our resort be arranged in advance. Unscheduled gatherings are not permitted, as we need to ensure we can properly accommodate your group and maintain a great experience for all our guests. Please note that event fees will apply, and prior approval is required. Feel free to reach out to our team to discuss availability, pricing, and how we can help make your event special.

Please contact our event organized for more information:

Are you pet friendly?

Pets are allowed in rooms and cabins but not in the glamping village. We have a pet fee of $25 per pet/ per night, up to 2 pets per unit maximum. We suggest being careful on the beach at low tide as some of the sharper edged oysters are exposed and can be dangerous for our four-legged friends. Pets onsite required to be on a leash.

Will I have access to a fire pit?

We have 3 communal firepits that are first come, first serve. Cabin 1 is the only resort unit with its own private fire pit, all glamping village tents have a private fire pit. We usually have firewood for sale on-site but if you want to be 100% sure we would suggest bringing your own.

Please check the status of recreational fire restrictions if you are coming in the summer as there can be a burn ban if it is too dry, you can check the status here

If you are planning to stay during an active fire ban, please bring a propane BBQ as firewood and charcoal use will not be permitted

What is the deal with the shellfish farm?

Our shellfish farm features oysters and clams and is open to resort guests for harvesting during low tide, typically for approximately one hour per day. The daily limit is 17 oysters and 30 clams per person. Harvesting is complimentary for registered resort guests; however, a valid Washington State shellfish license is required. Licenses can be purchased online through the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife or at many sporting goods stores, bait shops, and gas stations.

For information on purchasing a shellfish license online, visit:
https://wdfw.wa.gov/licenses/fishing

We are located in Marine Area 12.

Shellfish harvesting is subject to state health regulations and beach closures. Before harvesting or consuming shellfish, guests should verify that the beach is open by calling the Washington State Biotoxin Hotline at 1-800-562-5632.

Please note that shellfish beach closures are beyond our control and may occur at any time due to biotoxins, water quality concerns, or other public health advisories. Because these closures are issued by state agencies and are not controlled by the resort, room reservations are not eligible for refunds, credits, discounts, or cancellations due to shellfish harvesting closures.

What are your closest entrances into the Olympic National Park?

Hamma Hamma rec area is the closest followed by Staircase to the south then Dosewallips and Duckabush Rec areas to the north. I would consult with the Olympic National Park information center to get the best recommendations for your specific needs (trails for kids, pets, different intensities etc).

Since you are located in a rural area do you frequently experience power outages?

Power outages are most common in the winter months but not a regular occurrence. We do provide flashlights in the case of an outage and they only usually last anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours.

What is there to do on-site?

In addition to the shellfish farm we have kayaks and paddle boats for rent, communal firepits for campfires, BBQs for outdoor cooking, a children’s swing set, a dock for fishing as well as plenty of open space to enjoy the great outdoors and relax. Lawn games also available to check out free of charge.

Any activities for the kids?

Absolutely! We have a children's swing set on the waterfront. We also have a Nature Scavenger Hunt available in the office, perfect for children ages 3–7. Bring it back completed and earn an MBR Kids Club Pin.

S'mores around a campfire are always a favorite family activity, and the beach offers endless opportunities for exploring and discovering the wonders of Hood Canal. During low tide, children often enjoy carefully looking for baby crabs and other marine life under larger rocks along the shoreline.

Sun bleached oyster shells are plentiful around the resort and can be used for fun arts and crafts projects. Families can find lots of creative oyster shell craft ideas online, from painting and ornaments to keepsakes and decorative projects.

A short drive away, kids love visiting the local gift shops in Hoodsport and treating themselves to ice cream at Hoodsport Coffee Company. Families also enjoy the kid-friendly Hoodsport Trail and the disc golf course in Hoodsport, both of which are great ways to get outside and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Please use caution when exploring the beach, especially during low tide, as oyster shells can be sharp. We recommend wearing sturdy footwear while walking along the shoreline.

With beaches, forests, wildlife, and plenty of opportunities to explore, Hood Canal is a wonderful place for children to connect with nature and create lasting memories.

What are the closest towns to you?

Brinnon is closest but Hoodsport is the largest. Hoodsport has gas, a grocery store, café, wineries, restaurants and souvenir shops. Hoodsport coffee has the most amazing line up of local ice cream imaginable.

Is there a minimum age to make a reservation?

Yes, minimum age to reserve any accommodation is 18 years old.

Is there Wi-Fi?

We have Wi-Fi available right outside of the office, at the fire pits common area, and in all the cabins, rooms, and glamping tents.

Mikes beach resort is listed as a dive spot. Do you offer classes?

We do not, however YSS Dive in Hoodsport does offer classes and frequently hold them out here at Mikes. We do have easy access into the water, the capacity to fill your air tanks as well as access to the popular Flag Pole Point dive site. Day passes are available for scuba divers that would like to dive at the resort but aren't planning to stay in our accommodations, the day pass fee is $35.00 per diver/ per day.

What fishing opportunities do you have a Mikes?

We have seasonal crabbing, shrimping and fishing available with the shellfish farm open year-round. I would suggest consulting with the department of fish and wildlife website to see what is currently open for Marine area 12 north of Ayock point. Corresponding licenses required. Be sure to do your research and bring the appropriate gear. There are links to low tide, fishing and crabbing information on our activities page.

Can I launch my boat at Mikes?

We do have a boat launch and limited moorage available. The launch is quite tight and doesn’t accommodate very large boats (20 foot or under only). Triton Cove state park is a few miles north and can accommodate larger boats. The boat launch fee is $30.00 (Self launch) and includes trailer parking.

Boat Moorage is $30.00 per day. The boat launch at Mike's Beach Resort is reserved exclusively for our resort guests.
